The Town of Indian River Shores has actively participated in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS) since 2008.  This program is beneficial in keeping your homeowner insurance rates as low as possible.

Please see the latest 2017 annual report for CRS, published in May 2018, at this link.

Flood Risk Open House was held in March 2018 when FEMA explained how and why the local risk of flooding has changed, how the preliminary new Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) has changed and steps you can take to protect your home from extensive damage often caused by flooding.  The 90-day appeal process begins about a month after this open house (roughly April-June), which is followed by another 6-month adoption/compliance period.  Please see the FEMA website for the preliminary maps.  The Town maps are in 0232J, 0234J, 0242J, 0253J, and 0261J.  Or you may find them on this website through this separate page.

This page provides easy links to local and national FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) information.  FEMA is part of the Department of Homeland Security, and is responsible for oversight of the NFIP.

Multiple newsletters with FEMA tips and flooding information that were prepared by Town staff and sent to every homeowner and business in town are available in the Building Department.
